"The Boat Show 2003"
Coming Soon |
The Timmel Collection - Saugatuck will have as its June 2003 Exhibition "The Boat Show," new paintings by Holland, MI artists Mary Porter and Mae Van Ark. Porter's recent works continue to create images that are full of light, color and well-considered design. Especially featured this year are paintings of boats and the Lake Michigan shore, ranging from the fancifully abstract to the realistic. Add to these a few surprise images, and an exciting show is at hand for one of the Midwest foremost watercolorists.
On boats, Mary states:
"The feeling of being one with the wind and the water is often what I try to convey in paintings of boats, especially sailboats. The beauty of sails, of sleek lines, of dramatic skies and waves, are all inspiration. Just being on the water, from rowboat to schooner, can be an adventure to paint, even if fantasy enters in."
Mary is a long-time resident of Holland. Her undergraduate degree is from Purdue University, with further study in art at the Cincinnati Academy of Art and the University of Cincinnati. Besides a number of one-artist shows, she has had award -winning paintings in numerous area-juried exhibitions. Many private collections contain her work. This is Mary's annual spring show at The Timmel Collection and will run from late may through July, 2003.
